British Airways is the United Kingdom’s national flag carrier airline. Based on fleet size British Airways is the largest airline in the United Kingdom. In 1952, British Airways, then known as British Overseas Airways Corporation, flew the first commercial jet flight ever. The flight from London to Johannesburg took a whole 24hours to complete. This is when British Airways made their first major debut within South Africa’s commercial airline market. The airline is a member of the Oneworld alliance. British Airways uses their alliance partners to connect South African travellers to North America (American Airlines), Australia (Qantas) and Asia (Cathay Pacific).

British Airways International has been recognised at the 17th annual Ask Africa Orange Index awards ceremony as the top airline in the Airline Industry Category. Regarded as the broadest and most referenced service excellence standard in SA, the awards covers more than 168 companies through 31 industries.

British Airways announced that they will add four weekly flights to their double daily Johannesburg – London schedule. The new flights will be start operating on the 29^th of August. The airline will use its newest aircraft, the Boeing 787-800, on this route. The airline currently operates 14 weekly flights on this route.

Massive news for Durbanites! British Airways will launch the first direct flights from Durban to London in more than two decades. British Airways will start with two or three flights a week on the new route, which will be launched before the end of 2018. Bookings will open soon!

On 26 March 2015 British Airways made changes to seat selection on hand luggage only fares. For bookings made on or after this date, British Airways will allocate you a seat when you check-in. If you would like to change your allocated seat, you will be able to do so for a particular fee. Please note that for hand luggage only bookings made on or before March 26, 2015, free seat selection at check-in will still be available.
